Norwegian University of Science and Technology · Department of Energy and Process Engineering

The Industrial Ecology Program (IndEcol) with Department of Energy and Process Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is seeking a Post.Doc or Researcher in climate modelling.

The successful candidate should have motivation to help improve the way we manage our forests for climate mitigation. To this end, a core objective of this position will be to undertake work with an earth system model to study the climate implications of human induced disturbances of forest ecosystems for biomass raw material acquisition. The main tasks will be to adapt pre-defined model configurations and resolutions to the requirements of the case studies as well as to undertake model simulations and analyze the outcomes.

We are seeking candidates with a PhD degree in atmospheric, climate, environmental sciences, physical geography, biogeography, or applied mathematics or physics. The main tasks of the position will be to undertake modelling of biogeophysical and biogeochemical mechanisms following land disturbance and their implications for the local and global climate. Experience in running e.g. earth system models and climate modelling in general will be a plus. Good knowledge of mathematical fundamentals and excellent programming skills (FORTRAN as well as IDL, NCL or comparable languages) are required. Applicants are expected to be fluent in English.

The Industrial Ecology Program (IndEcol) is an interdisciplinary research and teaching program managing its own International MSc program and PhD program. IndEcol has a high reputation within the field. IndEcol is well recognized for its work in the area of environmental and climate assessment of bio-resource based systems. The group contributed with several authors to the forthcoming IPCC WGIII report in this domain.

The research activities of the Industrial Ecology Program are funded by national and European agencies, as well as industrial partners and internal sources. There is a long tradition in fundamental model development, in addition to industrial and policy applications through case studies and tool development. The Industrial Ecology Program is well integrated in the international research community through the participation in international research projects and through an extensive network of international collaboration.
